Meet Laura

Built Like Steel, Heart Soft As A Feather;

In 2002, Laura L. Taylor was training a group of seniors at a fitness center when she realized that all seniors were not getting enough attention in a gym environment. She decided that day that she was going to open a studio just for her most fierce and delicate clientele.

While brainstorming business name ideas with a class of her seniors, it was Ernest Hall who helped come up with the name Steel Feather. At the time, Ernest was “a recovered crack-addict turned Preacher” as Laura states, and she assisted him with getting back on his feet and in shape to be a Hollywood-Extra on the sets of Pirates of The Caribbean movies!

Ernest explained that the former body builder was externally tough and built like steel, while still maintaining a soft heart like a feather. Thus, Steel Feather Fitness was born.

In 2008, Laura laced up her running shoes and took off to offer senior fitness classes in Independent, Assisted and Memory Care Living facilities across California. As Steel Feather grew, so did the confidence and strength of the seniors in Laura’s communities! She started hiring instructors with similar goals as her to bring more fitness options across the states, coast to coast.

By 2017, Laura started to partner with insurance plans and senior benefit programs offered through Medicare supplements to bring Steel Feather to senior living facilities throughout the nation without a cost to the senior, or their living community!

She hopes to expand further, and hopes her program continues building strength and confidence in our seniors”.
